There are many benefits of drinking green tea. If you haven't done it regularly. Now is the time to consider it into a daily habit.
As reported by The Indian Express, the habit of drinking green tea is believed to be an alternative treatment for combating obesity, insulin resistance, and memory damage.
This means that green tea can help improve memory and insulin resistance in the brain caused by high levels of fat and fructose in a person's body.
A study involving rats as an object of research shows that green tea contains an ingredient known as EGCG (epigallocatechin-3-gallate), catechins, and biologically active components.
This component has the potential to reduce insulin resistance, which usually causes type II diabetes. This type of diabetes is more often caused by obesity (being overweight).
"Green tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world after water, and is grown in at least 30 countries," said Xuebo Liu of Northwest A & F University in Yangling, China.
"The ancient habit of drinking green tea can be a more acceptable alternative for treatment when it comes to fighting obesity, insulin resistance, and memory damage," Liu added.
Previous research has shown that EGCG has the potential to treat various human diseases, such as bone marrow disorders, reduce toxicity and kidney damage due to cancer drugs, as well as some undue heart conditions.
Before publishing the results of the study in The FASEB Journal, the team divided three-month-old male rats into three diet-based groups, namely the control group given standard food, the group fed high fat and fructose diet (HFFD), and the group given the HFFD diet and 2 grams of EGCG per liter of drinking water.
The researchers monitored the rats for 16 weeks and found that those who were fed with HFFD had a higher final body weight than rats in group 1. In addition, rats in group 2 were much fatter than rats given HFFD and EGCG.
