Eat lots of nuts, make Sperm more "Mighty"

One in seven couples has difficulty having children and around 40-50 percent of cases of infertility are caused by men. Related to that, a study revealed that peanut consumption routines can be a savior for male sperm fertility.

Reported by the BBC, researchers divided 119 healthy men between the ages of 18 and 35 into two groups, namely those who added about 60 grams into their daily meals and those who did not. The nuts consumed include almonds, hazel nuts and walnuts every day for 14 weeks.

As a result, those in the 'bean' group proved their sperm to increase both in number (14 percent), vitality (4 percent), movement (6 percent) and shape and size (1 percent). All measurements are adjusted according to sperm quality parameters provided by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The study also refers to the finding that eating foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants and B folate vitamins can increase fertility. And nuts contain many of these nutrients and others.

Even so, the researchers assert that these men are healthy and look fertile, so it is not clear whether these findings can be applied to a wider population, including men who are fertile.

"But while, until we get the answer to the question, we should encourage all our patients to stop drinking alcohol, stop smoking, eat healthier, all things are standard," concluded Dr. Virginia Bolton, a former embryological consultant at Guy's Hospital London.
